When we are living in the era of Rs 200 crore, Rs 500 crore and Rs 1000 crore clubs, we have also witnessed films in recent times which have struggled to recover their budget. Especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, the theatrical business was affected adversely with many movies that were released having suffered as a result of low footfall. One of those films was the movie Radhe Shyam which was released in 2022.

We all know that Prabhas has made a grand comeback on the big screen with the magnum opus Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire which broke his dry spell at the box office. Radhe Shyam was one of the three films starring Prabhas that flopped between Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Salaar. The film is counted among the worst-performing films financially in South cinema.

Directed by Radha Krishna Kumar, Radhe Shyam had Pooja Hegde in the female lead and a romantic story, the first ever for Prabhas. Audiences and fans, used to seeing Prabhas in larger-than-life mass heroic roles, could not identify with the romantic side of the actor and rejected the film.

Made on a budget of Rs 350 crore and released on a pan-India level, Radhe Shyam barely brought in Rs 125 crore at the global box office. Trade analysts claimed that the movie underperformed at the box office, losing about Rs 170 crore which put further financial strain on the producers and distributors. Due to the negative reviews, the film and its protagonist Prabhas got trolled on social media. Moreover, a few days after the release, people were left shocked when one of Prabhas’ fans took his own life after it underperformed. This piece of news made big headlines in 2022.

The director of the film Radha Krishna Kumar was trolled so brutally for the film that he did not make public appearances for a while. He has not made any other film or announced any new project since the Radhe Shyam debacle.
