Karnataka: Teacher Dismissed For Derogatory Remark Against PM Modi, Calling 'Mahabharata, Ramayana Imaginary'
The complaint stated that the teacher presented Hinduism negatively with the alleged intent of converting students to Christianity

A teacher was dismissed from her job at a private school in Karnataka’s Mangaluru after an uproar over her alleged anti-Hindu remarks and derogatory comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The right-wing group, supported by BJP MLAs Vedyas Kamath and Y Bharat Shetty, alleged that the accused teacher at St Gerosa English HR Primary School in Mangaluru taught students that the Mahabharata and the Ramayana were “imaginary”, according to a report by NDTV.

The group also alleged that the teacher who taught class 7, told students that Lord Ram was a “mythical creature”.

Referring to the 2002 Godhra riots and the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case, the teacher allegedly also passed derogatory remarks against PM Modi.

Complaint Lodged Against The Teacher

Demanding decisive action, parents lodged a complaint against the teacher and the school management.

She is trying to “induce feelings of hatred in the minds of children”, the parents said in their complaint.

The complaint stated that the teacher presented Hinduism negatively with the alleged intent of converting students to Christianity.

Reportedly, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the teacher yet.

School’s Reaction

After the uproar, the Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) started an investigation into the case and the school dismissed the teacher.

Meanwhile, the St Gerosa School also issued a statement and said it has a history of 60 years and to date, no incident like this has happened.

“This unfortunate incident has created a temporary mistrust between us and our move will help rebuild this trust with your cooperation and we all work together for the better future of our students,” the school said as per the NDTV report.

BJP MLA Calls For Action

BJP MLA Y Bharat Shetty, who represents the Mangalore City North constituency, took up the issue after the parents of a student at a private school complained to the police against the teacher.

“It is not the first time that certain schools are spreading anti-Hindu sentiments,” he said in a statement.

Schools that banned girls from wearing bangles, and spotting bindis on the forehead following Hindu traditions are now spreading hatred against Ram Mandir, the MLA alleged.

Shetty also urged Hindus to reconsider enrolling their children in schools run by “Christian management”.

He cited a history of instances where “anti-Hindu sentiments” were purportedly expressed within such institutions.

The legislator said the BJP will stage protests if the school administration fails to take stringent action against the accused teacher.

DYFI Slams BJP

Meanwhile, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) state president Muneer Katipalla, in a statement, lashed out at Shetty, saying the MLA makes an appearance only when he finds a communal hatred agenda.

Taking exception to Shetty’s statement that Hindu students should boycott schools of Christian managements, he asked whether the MLA had ever tried to solve the problems of government schools and colleges in the district during his tenure.
