Denis Villeneuve Spills The Beans About Filming Dune: Part Two Entirely In IMAX
Shot across picturesque locations of Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan and Italy, Dune: Part Two is scheduled to release on March 15.

Get ready for more sand and spectacle as Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two gears up to deliver thrills just like its predecessor. As the sequel’s release is a month away, exciting details about the film are emerging, adding to the excitement. Interestingly, for the upcoming movie, director Denis Villeneuve opted to follow Christopher Nolan’s footsteps in Oppenheimer, as he chose to shoot the entire movie using IMAX cameras. This decision goes beyond logistics, as it links with the practicalities of the story and enhances the visual experience. Villeneuve, an Academy Award nominee, shared insights into his thought process for this unique approach in an interview with Comic Book.

The director said, “The thing is that in Dune Part One the idea was that we bring everything that will be linked with nature and space will be shot in IMAX. Because what is very interesting for a filmmaker is to use a change of formats as a new kind of inner rhythm, you can increase some of the impact of some emotions or the impact of some revelations or discovering new landscape for using a change in the formats.”

Denis Villeneuve added, “Part Two is mostly shot in the desert so Greig Fraser (cinematographer) and I decided that we will go all for it. I used the changes of formats more going from a standard IMAX (aspect ratio) 1:43 to 1:90 which is like just like less abrupt but still I wanted. It’s a much more immersive movie that it made sense for me to go full IMAX.”

Dune: Part Two, the sequel of the hit 2021 film Dune, is the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s renowned novel, which picks up where the first film ended.

The official synopsis read, “This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Two will feature Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux and Souheila Yacoub.

Shot across picturesque locations such as Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan and Italy, the upcoming movie is scheduled to release on March 15.
