Kamal Haasan Rues Missed Opportunity to Act Alongside MGR As His Brother In Naalai Namadhe

Kamal Haasan, who began his acting career at the age of 5 with the Tamil film Kalathur Kannamma, reportedly missed an opportunity to portray the younger brother of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MGR. Sources suggest that Kamal Haasan is still disappointed about this incident. His early roles included playing the son of Gemini Ganesan and Savitri in a film. Notably, he appeared in movies such as Parthal Pasi Theerum alongside Shivaji and Ananda Jyothi with MGR.

He continued to act in films until he was nine years old. Due to certain reasons, he took a break from acting and worked as an assistant to choreographer Dhangappan. Later, he made his debut as a leading actor with the 1975 drama Apoorva Raagangal, directed by K. Balachander.

The subsequent films in his repertoire, including Sakalakala Vallavan, Vikram, Thoongathey Thambi Thoongathey, Nayakan, Nammavar and Thevar Magan, received noteworthy acclaim. Amidst this successful period, an offer came his way to portray the younger brother of MGR in Naalai Namathey. Regrettably, Kamal Haasan had to decline this opportunity due to his existing commitments to other film projects.

There is a report that expressed his sorrow. He believed that it would have been beneficial for his political career if he had acted with MGR in the song Naalai Namathe.

In the year 1975, director K S Sethumadhavan directed the Indian Tamil-language masala film titled Naalai Namadhe. Boasting a cast that included M. G. Ramachandran, Latha, Chandramohan, Vennira Aadai Nirmala and M. N. Nambiar, this film stands as a remake of the 1973 Hindi film Yaadon Ki Baaraat.

The storyline revolves around three brothers who are separated in childhood due to the actions of a killer, leading them to grow up and lead separate lives. The film hit theatres on July 4, 1975, and achieved success.

Kamal Haasan shot to fame with films including Thevar Magan, Hey Ram, Dasavatharam and Vishwaroopam. The actor last appeared in the film Leo. He has a few films lined up including Indian 2, Thug Life, Vikram 2, KH 237, Indian 3 and KH233 among others.

Meanwhile, MG Ramachandran is best known for films like Nadodi Mannan, Rickshawkaran, Kudiyiruntha Koyil and Ulagam Sutrum Valiban. Additionally, he also served as a politician and philanthropist, holding the position of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1977 until his demise in 1987.
