Living in Noida? Get Your License Before Planning At-Home Booze Party on New Year's Eve Or Else...
Not having a liquor licence for parties even at home or at the community level will be termed as a violation of rules and would attract legal proceedings.

If you live in Noida and are planning to throw a booze party at home or a community hall for your friends and family this Christmas or New Year’s eve, then you might reconsider your plans as the District Excise Officer in Noida has advised people to obtain a bar license for liquor-centric gatherings. He has also warned against legal consequences, including fines, in case of failure to follow the rules.

Not having a liquor licence for parties even at home or at the community level is a violation of rules and could attract legal proceedings, including fine, said Subodh Kumar Srivastava, District Excise Officer (DEO), Gautam Buddh Nagar.

“If anyone is serving liquor without a licence, whether it is liquor meant for sale in Uttar Pradesh or outside the state, it is totally illegal. It will attract action (from the excise department),” District Excise Officer (DEO), Gautam Buddh Nagar, Subodh Kumar Srivastava was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

How To Get The License?

For such scenarios, a person can avail the facility of “occasional licenses” which come under two categories – one for smaller gatherings that include house parties and another for parties held at a larger scale at community halls or restaurants.

Individuals obtaining for smaller parties can obtain a license for a fee of Rs 4,000, while those organising larger events at community halls, restaurants, or banquets, among others, will need to pay a license fee of Rs 11,000.

Notably, both these occasional licenses remain valid for a single day. People wanting to opt for the licenses can apply through the website upexciseportal.in under the category of useful public services.

Why The Need for Occasional Licenses?

According to the DEO, the major reason behind the implementation of the policy is to ensure that liquor served at the parties are authentic and not illicit. Along with this, the license ensures that the applicant buys liquor locally which is meant for consumption only within the state.

“First, when you take a licence, it will ensure that the liquor served at a party is authentic and not illicit. This will also make sure that the applicant buys liquor locally which is meant for consumption only within the state and is not procured from other states, which would cause a revenue loss to the government,” he added.

The Excise Department has also issued a helpline number 8882120733 where residents can share information on the consumption of illegal narcotics or drugs during the parties.
