Apple Faces New iPhone and MacBook Security Concerns: How It Affects The Users
Apple and other GPU makers face this security risk which allows the hacker to read all the processed data.

Apple has confirmed a new security flaw which majorly affects older iPhone models and M-series MacBooks. The issue is linked to the GPU that is running on the models before the iPhone 15 series and the Mac M3 models.

Sadly, if you are using last year’s M2-powered Macs, the security flaw is a definite risk and Apple will have to quickly set out a path to patch the issue for these devices.

The issue with this flaw is that all the data processed by the chip can be viewed if an attacker is able to bypass the loophole and access the device.

The other big talking point is that Apple isn’t the only company that needs to be worried about the flaw because GPUs made by Qualcomm, AMD and more vendors are also affected by this issue. Researchers who have discovered the issue are calling it LeftoverLocals because the flaw allows the hacker to read the data that was left over from the previous reading. LeftoverLocals sounds like a vague term but its modus operandi is spot on.

The good news about the flaw is that if you recently bought the A17 powered iPhone or M3-powered Mac then a patch has fixed any possible gateway for this issue.

More importantly, the flaw is only exploitable if the attacker already has access to the machine which is likely to happen all the time. Having said that, people should be careful about what they use and open on their systems, because any of the attachments could be laced with malware that could infect the system. And yes, it goes without saying that keep your systems and the OS up-to-date to protect them from flaws like these.

What's your reaction?
