India Wins BIG At The Grammys As Shankar Mahadevan, Zakir Hussain Receive Award | Video
Grammys 2024: Indian music composer and Grammy winner Ricky Kej congratulated Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain on their big win.

Grammy Awards 2024: India won big at the Grammys this year as Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s band Shakti bagged the Best Global Music Album award for ‘This Moment’. The group also features guitarist John McLaughlin, percussionist V Selvaganesh and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan.

Indian music composer and Grammy winner Ricky Kej congratulated the band by sharing a video of their acceptance speech on stage. Posting the video on his official X account, Kej wrote, “SHAKTI wins a Grammy!!! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!!!! #IndiaWinsGrammys.”

In his speech, Shankar Mahadevan thanked his wife for her constant support. “Thank you boys and thank you god, family, friends and India. We are proud of you India. Last but not the least, I’d like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to,” Shankar said.

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus won her first ever Grammy for best pop solo performance for her hit Flowers, beating out Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift. Cyrus took the stage to accept the award from Mariah Carey. She began her speech with a shoutout to Carey. “This MC Is Gonna Stand by This MC,” Cyrus said, adding “this is just too iconic.”
