Rupali Ganguly revealed that due to the stress, her father became a diabetic.

Anupamaa star Rupali Ganguly is arguably the top television actress at the moment. However, she has not always been in a financially secure position. In a recent interview, she opened up about the struggles her family had to face due to her filmmaker father’s flop films.

Rupali Ganguly, currently seen in the superhit Star Plus show Anupamaa, does not need an introduction. The actress hails from a film background, as her father Anil Ganguly was a notable filmmaker, and her brother Vijay Ganguly is a choreographer. In a conversation with Mashable India, the actress talked about her family’s struggles and the financial constraints they were in after a series of her father’s films flopped at the box office.

She said, “I used to walk from Worli to Prithvi Theatre (15 km distance) because my father’s films flopped and we were wiped out.” She revealed that whatever he had had to be sold. The actress talked about the 1991 film Dushman Devta and said, “He made one film called Dushman Devta with Dharmendra and it flopped.” The actress revealed further that due to the stress her father became a diabetic, and all the money was lost.

She mentioned that those were the days when filmmakers spent their assets and money on a film they were working on, and there was no “corporate system”. The Anupamaa actress added that the films were made, all thanks to the money invested by the filmmakers, which was gained through mortgaging or selling the home or jewellery. She said, “That was the fashion, that was passion.”

Talking about her first pay, and work, she said, “My first play was Atmakatha at Prithvi Theatre and it was produced by Dinesh Thakur. I was paid Rs 50 for my first play, and sometimes I also used to get samosa.” She stated that it was a good amount of money.

Some of Rupali’s most famous works include the shows Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Sanjivani: A Medical Boon, Parvarrish and Anupamaa.
