The Rock vs Roman Reigns Inevitable at WWE WrestleMania 40: Report
Cody Rhodes clinched a historic triumph at Royal Rumble,

The Wrestling world was left stunned when WWE announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would square off against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. Fresh off a historic triumph at Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes was almost confirmed to find a place in the roster of the mega event, with fans anticipating a clash against the Tribal Chief. The doubt was cleared when WWE released the poster of the upcoming WrestleMania featuring The Rock alongside other superstars.

It led to an outburst among Rhodes’ fans, who feel the RAW star is a more deserving candidate to face Reigns at the next pay-per-view event. The social media uproar against WWE was so great that “We Want Cody” became the top trending topic in the United States for two days in a row. “We Want Cody” and “Rocky Sucks” shouts from the crowd took over the latest episode of Monday Night RAW as well.

WWE, however, is in no mood to change their plans to provide The Rock with the grandest stage in the wrestling circuit– WrestleMania, according to a report by PWInsider. Johnson was recently assigned to the role of the TKO board of directors. He was also promised a reported $30 million salary but only if the wrestler-cum-actor challenged Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania.

The agreement though raised questions about the results at the recently concluded Royal Rumble where Rhodes prevailed for the second consecutive time to book a rematch with Reigns. The row started after Rhodes announced that he would not feature in the WrestleMania battle against Reigns on February 2’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. That’s when The Rock stepped up to confront the Bloodline leader.

Some earlier reports claimed that Rhodes had already warned WWE about the consequences of dropping him from the WrestleMania matchcard. “Cody expressed to those backstage that he thought the reaction wouldn’t be the one they were looking for. He was seen as “sombre” backstage,” a Fightful report stated.

On the first night of WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes ought to have a match as well. This would level the playing field before the major main event. After being attacked by Drew McIntyre on RAW, The American Nightmare might square off against him on the grand stage once again. Another option would be a triple-threat battle for the World Heavyweight Championship against The Scottish Warrior and Seth Rollins.

WrestleMania 40 is scheduled to take place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia over two days– April 6 and 7.
