WATCH: The Rock Slaps Cody Rhodes After Announcing His Decision to Take on Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 40

The tables were turned as The Rock switched his allegiances as he now sides with cousin and WWE Undisputed WWE Universal Title, Roman Reigns. At the Wrestlemania XL kick-off, a press conference ahead of the biggest event in WWE’s calendar, Cody Rhodes had made his decision to take on Roman Reigns to headline WrestleMania 40.

At the press conference, Cody Rhodes had revealed that he would be facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. The champion expressed his displeasure in the match-up since he had already defeated Rhodes the previous year.

Reigns took a massive dig at Rhodes saying, “You are irrelevant, just like your Dad.” Cody was not happy with the insult to his father and went on to hit back with digs about the Bloodline. Rhodes called out the faction for being ‘lackeys’ and ‘yes-men’ and went ahead to call them goons.

The crowds had previously expressed their unhappiness as Dwayne Johnson had made a sensational return and was eyeing up Roman Reigns for the title. But it seems that his loyalties continue to remain with his family as it remains uncertain as to whether The Rock will be featured at Wrestlemania.

Cody went on to boldly claim that if their family saw Roman Reigns, they would be ashamed of him. This prompted Dwayne Johnson to step in and back up his cousin. The Rock gave Cody Rhodes a stern warning and went on to slap him which shocked the crowds.

The Rock said, “When you talk about his family, you’re talking about my family. When you’re talking about his ancestors, you’re talking about my ancestors. And when you’re talking about his blood, you’re talking about my blood. So now, we have a problem.”

The heel turn of the Rock was an unexpected way to make things work out in the end as the fans were not happy with him taking on Reigns for the title initially. However, it remains to be seen whether fans will get to see The Rock feature at Wrestlemania 40 or if we see him in a managerial role just like Paul Heyman.

However, one thing is confirmed the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes will be headlining Wrestlemania 40 as he takes on Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed WWE Universal Title as he aims to ‘finish the story.’
